The Arizona Nurse Practitioner Association (AZINA) has announced the new governing board members for the 2023-2024 term. The new board members were declared at a recent picnic held at Kiwanis Park in Tempe. The event was a great opportunity for members to take a break, enjoy the warm sunshine, and celebrate Nurse Practitioner week.

The newly appointed governing board members are as follows: Elizabeth Sunil Sam as President, Lakshmi Nair as Vice President, Anju Rastogi as Secretary, Bopsy Francis as Joint Secretary, Anitha Binu as Treasurer, Jolly Thomas as Joint Treasurer, Bindu Simon and Dr. Shaju Francis as Membership Chair, Roby Cherian and Mary Biju as Continuing Education Chair, Sincy Thomas as Bylaw Chair, Arya Bindu and Suma Jacob as Awards and Scholarship, Ajitha Nair as Communications, and Dr. Sobha Krishnakumar as Editorial.

The new board members are a vibrant and accomplished group of leaders who are sure to lead AZINA with great success in the coming year. The association is proud to have them onboard and is excited to see what they can achieve.

In addition to the announcement of the new governing board members, AZINA also visited a long-term care facility during Christmas. The association is always looking for ways to give back to the community and this visit was a great way to spread some holiday cheer.

The Newsletter also provides updates on flu and COVID-19. The seasonal influenza activity is high and continuous to increase across the countries, with at least 8.7 million illnesses, 78,00 hospitalizations, and 4,500 deaths from flu so far this season. Monoclonal antibodies are FDA-approved treatments that can reduce the chances of hospitalization or death from COVID-19. Two FDA-approved medications are Paxlovid and Remdesivir.

The association is always looking for ways to give back to the community and provide updates on important health issues such as flu and COVID-19. Stay tuned for more exciting news and updates from AZINA.
